A room must be completely empty to get the best prices we offer. The question is why?
There are some very big issues why.
A room needs to be empty to paint for safety, efficiency, and a higher-quality finish by providing unobstructed access to all walls and corners. This allows for proper preparation like cleaning, filling holes, and sanding, ensures paint covers the entire surface, and prevents accidental damage to furniture and belongings.
A clear space allows for a full range of motion, making it easier to paint evenly without having to work around obstacles.
An empty room allows you to paint in the correct order, starting with the ceiling, then the walls, and finally the trim, so you can catch drips and have a cleaner finish.
Professionals save significant time on setup and cleanup, which can lower labor costs. For DIYers, this means a less frustrating and faster project.
Avoiding paint splatters and drips on furniture is a major benefit. It also ensures you don’t have to clean dust off of items that were left inside.
Moving furniture out of the way prevents tripping over objects, which could cause injury or damage to the furniture or walls.
Leaving items in the room increases the risk of paint spills or splatters, while covering them completely can be time-consuming and may not be foolproof.
You can’t properly clean and prepare a wall for painting if furniture is in the way. This includes sweeping, filling holes, and sanding.
It is a huge misconception that it is good enough to push items to the middle of a room because this still can leave significant risk of paint reaching floors where in an empty area full room size single tarps can be used offering a much higher level of protection. It’s also important to note that the risk of stepping on paint drips on the cloth tarps most painters use will result in paint pushing through the canvas onto the below surface and a lack of proper clearance almost guarantees this will happen sooner or later.
So what do you do if you live in an occupied home and can’t ’empty it out’ to paint? For these situations we generally work with our customer to set up a room a day process where a single room is emptied, fully painted and ready to return to full use by the time you start dinner. Each day another room. Does it take a little longer to complete the job? Yes, Is it the safest and fastest way to do it while producing a flawless finish without problems? Absolutely.
And eventually there will be a situation where it just cannot be done. In these situations, our insurance company requires us to obtain a signed agreement from our customer that they acknowledge the risk involved and are tasked with taking any necessary actions to cover and protect those items to their satisfaction and understand all the risks involved and that the contractor will not be held liable for any issues involved.
